Mumspo Reviews: Birde Smart Media Player
Are we the only parents who stress about screen time?
Every time you scroll through the news, or your Facebook feed, you’re bombarded with articles on the detriments of screen time.
SCREEN TIME CAUSES OBESITY
SCREEN TIME CAUSES MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES
SCREEN TIME CAUSES ACADEMIC FAILURE
IF YOUR CHILD EVEN GLANCES BRIEFLY AT A SCREEN ONCE IN THEIR LIVES, EVERYTHING IS RUINED FOREVER
You know what, though? Sometimes Mumma needs a shower. Sometimes Mumma needs a coffee. Sometimes Mumma needs a time out from playing toy cars with one hand, flipping the pages of a story book with the other, all while the mum guilt kicks in because the laundry hasn’t been done and dinner should’ve been in the slow cooker three hours ago.
By the way, the Mumspo Team come from the generation that watched TV until our eyes fell out, walked to school all by ourselves and drank from our neighbor’s hoses when we got thirsty riding our bikes all day long. We’ve turned out just fine. Don’t let the news, or your Facebook feed, trick you into feeling like you’re not doing a great job. You most certainly are doing a great job.
The internet is a scary place, especially for parents. You might- with the best of intentions- set them up with a wholesome Blippi Youtube video but one click and BAM! They’re deep into content that’s age-inappropriate and, quite often, disturbing.
That’s where Birde steps (flies?) in. Birde understand that parents need a break and that sometimes we need a hand keeping our munchkins happily entertained so we can actually finish a coffee while it’s still warm. They understand that we are wary of allowing our children unfettered access to the internet. They understand that we want to introduce our children to technology while still allowing them to have opportunity for play.
Birde is the world’s first smart media device designed entirely for children. It’s tough, portable, water-resistant and beautifully designed. It’s bright and colourful- including the USB charger!- and, while it connects to the internet for your ease of use, it has it’s own dedicated content platform so you know your kids won’t accidentally stumble over anything that you wouldn’t want them to see or hear.
When you use the ‘Birde Seeds’ to load content onto your Birde, it chirps happily. The content includes audio-books, music and can even be connected to a compatible Smart TV to display video.
The Birde teaches kids about technology through play. They can operate the device themselves, they can listen to an audiobook while they build blocks, they can dance to the music or have quiet time with a video. Most importantly of all, Birde are 100% endorsed by my two small children, aged 1yo and 3yo.
Speaking of my two small children, it’s time to hear that happy Birde chirp and drink a peaceful hot cup of coffee (aka Mummy-Go-Go-Juice)…
