When the Australian Bureau of Statistics announces that 116,427 people are homeless it can be easy to get lost in numbers.
But every single one of those numbers is a person who doesn’t have a safe space to sleep tonight.
Every day 250 people are turned away from crisis centres across the country
In the past 5 years the number of homeless people in Australia has increased by 14%, outstripping population growth at 9 per cent.
Homelessness is everyone’s responsibility.
Agape Outreach Inc. is a not-for-profit group dedicated to serving the homeless and needy in the Tweed Shire and the Southern Gold Coast.
Agape have been providing meals and assistance to those experiencing hardship since 2009. We cook and serve 4 separate meal services each week, over 190 three course meals and provide sleeping bags, blankets, clothes and toiletries to our friends on the street.
From the Agape Hub and Op Shop in south Tweed Heads we offer free food hampers to families in need; assistance in setting up houses; shower facilities; washing machines; training courses; support for medical visits, court cases, and basic life skills training.
As everything we do is offered for free and Agape is unfunded we rely on support from corporate sponsors, local businesses, other not-for-profit organisations, and the general public in order to continue providing our services.
The levels of poverty and homelessness on the Southern Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales are among the highest in Australia.
We need your help in order to continue providing assistance to our fellow Australians in need. Please contact with us at our website http://www.agapeoutreachinc.com or on facebook and lets move towards ending homelessness together.
